Cold test failure (nerve dead)

Hi all.. I have slight pain when placing pressure on the gum above the tooth (under the lip) although I don't get other pain other than a sensitive tooth. The dentist did a cold test on the problematic tooth which failed the test I could not feel anything... x-ray shows no infection or decay does the warrant a 100% root canal? is there any way this nerve can be brought back to life?

I'd have to at least see an Xray, and also a photo of your front teeth (upper/lower?).
