Tongue polyp? Please help im scared

Hi there,

Ive had what i call an overgrown tastebud on my dorsol of my tongue for probably 7 or so years (maybe longer). Its about 1-2mm in diametre, hard ball like and white fury on the top.... Ive never given it a thought until recently my dentist (new) asked me how long id had it and if i wanted it removed? Is this something i should have done? She says it would be sent for a biopsy, is this to confirm its cancer? Im 29, a mum of 3 and fit and healthyotherwise....now im in panic zone has anyone had this before? I cant find any info anywhere on it.
