Small indentation on a molar filling I got a year ago - should I be concerned?

Hi everyone,

About a year ago, my bottom left second molar broke in half and was rebuilt with a large white composite filling (no crown or root canal).

I've recently noticed what looks like a small indentation on the chewing surface (see attached photos below). Could this be wear, decay, or a failing filling ?

Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Doesn't look like decay. Could be an area of wear due to grinding. If it is not sensitive, then I would not worry as yet. But you should make sure that you are not a bruxer.

Thanks for your reply, Dr M. That is reassuring to hear. I haven't noticed any sensitivity or pain from the tooth, so I will keep monitoring it.

I wasn't aware I might be grinding/clenching my teeth. Are there any signs I should look out for that would indicate I am a bruxer?

Some people experience a headache or muscle pain in the cheeks in the mornings when they wake up. There could be pain on more than one tooth, or sensitivity. Sometimes there are no symptoms, but the signs are there on your teeth. As your dentist to have a look the next time you go for a check-up.
