Root canal treatment being performed on an improperly restored tooth?

2nd molar, mesial side near the bone.

That empty space or notch where some flaw obviously wasn't addressed?

In this condition, is this tooth suitable to have a root canal treatment performed on it?

At what point would that flaw be addressed? Prior to the root canal? Or after during the core/crown preparation?

Obviously a crown wouldn't be fitted with a space or decay underneath, but perhaps during the crown preparation, that flaw would be addressed as a matter of routine anyways?

A root canal is best performed by an endodontist yes, but every dentist/specialist has a different approach.

Hopefully he'll accommodate.

This tooth in question has been drilled on 6 times.

Last time that crack across the buccal surface formed.

I kind of shudder to think what will happen when that entire restoration is drilled out and replaced, if that's what happens.
