Swollen gums

I had #15 extracted 8 days ago because of abscess. About 3 days after extraction, the gum around the site became swollen and distracting to my tongue and cheek. It seems to be the gum area next to adjacent tooth. Day 8 and swelling has not gone down. It seems less distracting at times and more so at other times. Is this normal or could infection be involved? I have been on Amoxicillin since extraction.

Good day

It is very difficult to give an opinion without any photos or xrays. It could be related to another tooth that was actually contributing to the initial abscess or could be a possible gum infection due to poor oral hygiene in that area. It is best to arrange a follow-up visit with your treating dentist, so that the area can be evaluated.
