I pulled out a weird tooth

So I'm like 15, and I still had this baby tooth that wouldn't come out. The tooth under it had almost been fully grown and the baby tooth was on its side. It had been hurting me for several months and If I messed with it, It just hurt worse. I finally pulled it out tonight, and It doesn't have any roots on the bottom at all. Can someone explain to me why my tooth wouldn't come out even when an almost fully grown tooth was under it?

It just happens sometimes. I have no scientific explanation.
