Number 18 Tooth pulled question

The dentist inflicted lots of pain in the process of pulling this molar. He did num it extra times, the question is why didn't he divide the tooth and pull it out in pieces?
Also I request the tooth and gold crown be given to me , he kept the gold and gave me the tooth. Why wouldn't he have given me the gold too?

2nd molars are not always easy teeth to divide. That is a much better idea for 1st molars where the roots widely diverge. He should have given you the gold, it's your tooth and gold. Most likely he is building up a store of leftover gold pieces and when he has a jarful, he will be able to sell it.
