alternatives to crowns

I've been told that I have "deep bite" and must "open up the bite" because my bottom front teeth are scraping the backs of my upper front teeth. An orthodontist said the condition can be corrected with braces, and a prosthodontist said I need crowns. I'm 68 years old and I don't want braces, and crowns do a lot of damage to the molars they're bonded to. What's worse, the bond isn't perfect and bacteria can get in and eat the living tooth. So I'm wondering if there isn't a plastic prosthesis that conforms to the molars that can be snapped on like Invisalign. It would provide the height needed to open the bite. It could be removed for tooth cleaning, but would otherwise be in place while eating and sleeping.
