After scaling and root planing, the expectation is for inflammation to go down and re-establish connective tissue and junctional epithelium reattachment. From my observations, I don't see much reattachment but more reduction of inflammation and subsequent gingival recession. From many peer-reviewed articles, there has been a lack of consistent evidence that reattachment occurs especially in deeper pockets greater than 5 mm. Perhaps isolated cases see some reattachment but failed to provide general consensus.
