heated filler and metal kept in tooth?

Hello I was just looking on the net to see if bleach was normal to be used - had it poor into my throat and burn - trouble breathing. Anyway, found that was the norm and then read how current root canals are done. The only thing I had done differently from what I've read is that the pink filler was warmed and inserted into the tooth, the metal handle at the end of the filler was then cut off and left inside the tooth. The dentist said it was the best way to seal the tooth -leaving the filler and the metal it covered inside the tooth and just cutting the end off.

Has anyone heard of leaving the metal applicator inside the tooth like this?
