Is there any other way to repair my tooth besides a crown?

Here's a picture of what's left of my 2nd to last tooth on the bottom of my mouth. I just saw a dentist who suggested a crown for it. That's very costly for me and I was wondering if a cheaper alternative doesn't exist?

Yes it's possible for a crown to be placed without root canal treatment underneath.

As a matter of fact, it's indicated to avoid root canal treatment if possible.

Consult with your specialist dentist about the best option for your individual needs.

it's possible to place another amalgam filling retained into old amalgam filling. That is the cheapest solution in this situation. But duration of that work is quesionable.

All the best.
