Hi, I had a root canal done a couple of years ago on tooth #14 and have started to feel a throbbing ache in the tooth over the past few months. I went to a peridontist and he took a set of mini x-rays and didn't see any evidence of infection in #14, but I still get pain there that comes and goes. I also have gum disease in the area around #14, but nowhere else and jaw joint pain on the left side.
I had read that there are miles of tubules in the dentin of a tooth and that even after a root canal is done correctly bacteria continues to grow in the tubules. Is this correct? I am concerned about this bacteria entering my bloodstream and putting pressure on my immune system.
Can a dentist have tooth #14 extracted as a preventative measure?
