Wisdom tooth coming through off colour?

So I have recently noticed what looks like my wisdom tooth coming through and have been having minor on and off discomfort whilst eating/drinking (worst with wine). My girlfriend inspected it earlier and noticed it was a different colour to my other teeth. Is it infected and what should I do?
