When did Dentists become car salesmen?

I have been trying to get a crown for 2 years, the reason being no dentist will honor my dental plan which I have had all of my life enabling me to take care of the teeth that I have especially at my age of 71 years. I must have been to 4-5 dentist since January not one will give me the crown that my ins covers, it may not be made of gold, but it works for me. So, no one wins. I will not be bullied into something I cannot afford or need. Like BRUX really? Never had in 70 years why would I need it now? Costs over $400, no wonder there is no dental code. What a shame that I cannot even take care of my teeth due to the greedy world of Dentist! Shame on you all!

What type of crown does your insurance cover? Normal porcelain crowns? Why does the tooth need a crown? I cannot believe that the dentist did not explain their reasoning, or you went to some shady dentists. Not all dentists are like you stated. You might have just went to the wrong ones, or did not accept their explanation.

I get where Rachel’s coming from, many patients feel pressured into pricey treatments even when their insurance covers something reasonable. Not everyone needs the newest option if what’s covered works fine, especially for seniors.

Dr. M raises fair questions, but it’s also true that some dentists push extras like bruxism appliances without real need or explanation. It’s not about bashing dentists, it’s about calling out practices that make care feel like a sales pitch instead of a service.
