That tooth received a root canal in February 2021. Then, in March, the dentist performed crown lengthening and placed an inlay that she glued to the remaining tooth. This inlay failed (I honestly don't know why she chose that procedure, since the tooth was already ready for a post and crown). When the inlay failed, she used my remaining tooth, along with a filling she'd gotten to replace the inlay, filed it down completely to simulate the shape of a post, and placed a temporary acrylic crown. This acrylic crown lasted a year, and then I had a metal-porcelain crown placed over the remaining tooth and the filling I had. Today I'm showing you an x-ray of the tooth. It still has that strange black shadow from when I had an inlay, filling, or crown. Three days ago I went to another dentist for a general consultation, and she told me I needed a tooth extraction. I don't want to waste too much of your time, but an extraction isn't an option for me. Could I get another root canal, just for now?
What's that black spot? Is it bone loss? I have gingivitis, I need to clarify.
