I’ve been told I have an infection in my right root canal. I’m booked in for Thursday next week for the procedure. She mentioned extraction may be necessary obviously I’m worried if this is the case. She was just warning me of all possible outcomes. I recently had a knock in the head that caused my jaw to slam which could of broke a tooth that’s already had trauma nearly 20 years ago. I’m due to have an egg collection to have embryos frozen in about a week and a half’s time. The fertility clinic is fine with me having a root canal but I didn’t think to mention tooth extraction, I will when they reopen on Monday. Is it ok for me to do this the week before egg collection? And after how long do I wait for a dental implant. My parents are helping with the costs I just want my dental health to be the best it can be. Please help. I’m not on the medication Clexane that I’ve heard is a blood thinner. I’m not having any uncomfortable symptoms from the ivf medication I’m taking, I just want to have dental treatment and now worry it will effect anything.

Before you jump to any conclusions, do you have pain on this tooth? Have you been prescribed antibiotics in order to try and clear the infection? In cases like this, you might need to see an endodontist. They can possibly still try and save the tooth by means of an apicoectomy, if the infection is not too severe.
I don't think this tooth requires an extraction as yet.
