Veneer removal / reversal

I had 2 porcelain veneers placed on my upper lateral incisors. The dentist told me my teeth were minimally prepped with about 0.5mm removed. I am planning to get them redone either with more porcelain or composite because of my disliking of color and shape, however, would it be possible to leave my current veneers off and just have my natural teeth back even though they are prepped?
If so, what are some consequences of doing so?

If the prep was conservative enough, then you can leave them off. If the prep extended slightly into the dentin layer, you might have some sensitivity when they are removed, but if the prep was contained to the enamel only, you should not experience any side effects.

Even if the prep was conservative enough, would this make the teeth more likely to have decay over time?

No, front teetg are easy to keep clean, so chances of decay is minimal if you practice good oral hygiene habits.
