My top back tooth was weak from too many fillings. Trying to avoid a crown for the past year, the dentist just kept re-filling it. Now it's barely a nub - literally. Gone. The dentist said what's left probably isn't strong enough (or there isn't enough) for a post for a crown. Short of an implant, is that it? Too bad, so sad?? I had asked him early on if I could damage what was left of the tooth by not crowning it and he said no!! I can't decide if he didn't do the right thing or if sometimes this is just the way things go. He said not to worry since it was a back tooth but it feels really weird not to have a tooth there!!! Is it worth getting a second opinion on whether there's enough there for a crown? I don't want to throw good money after bad if he's being straight with me. Please advise!!!
