Temporary filing for root canal caved in

I had stage one of a root canal and had a temporary filing put in. Last night when I was eating I can feel that the filing has caved in. As it’s the weekend, I can’t get hold of my dentist and am heading away until Wednesday. I bought denta fix today to plug the gap. I haven’t used it yet but wondering if I should put that on to avoid filing my hole with food and bacteria.

Usually the temporary filling only disintegrates and does not come out fully. If you keep it clean, it should be fine!

I’ve dealt with a crumbling temporary filling before, and that "hollow" feeling is definitely unsettling, especially when you're headed out of town. Using the Dentafix is a smart move to keep food out of the canals, just make sure to gently clean the area first so you don't trap any debris underneath the new seal.

The tooth will disinfected again when the final stage of the root canal treatment is performed. If you are in no pain, keep it clean and then just make sure to go for your scheduled appointment.
