I have (controlled) periodontitis presenting with some bone loss and have been told that my tooth has poor prognosis for root canal and have been suggested for extraction instead. I'm told the tooth has supporting bone structure but bone loss around the roots. The tooth is currently not mobile.
Does a root canal treatment hasten the falling out of a tooth? Can someone explain why a root canal has a higher failure rate in my case?
Is there any other way I can save this tooth - doing a bone graft after the root canal for example? Will that improve my chances of saving this tooth?
Also does this mean I am not a suitable candidate for future root canals as well, as I have some bone loss across all my teeth.
