Root canal healing.

It's been 9 months since my root canal treatment and there is less inflammation and it's healing per my dentist. I don't feel any pain. The dentist who did my root canal did not informed me regarding the extrusion of gutta percha. Is it considered root canal failure? Is that why the infection is taking longer to heal? Is there anything that I need to worry about or should I get my root canal retreated? Also, is this normal for the infection to heal depending on how old the infection has been there?
