Root canal done in two sections with Gum recession. Is it normal for my gums to be this way?

I don't understand what the root canal and gum recession has to do with each other. It is seperate issues.The gum recession is not normal. It could be a combination of brushing too hard and aging. Root canal treatments are also usually done in 2 sessions.
