Re-Root Canal

Hello Endodontists and Dentists,

I recently had an emergency dental appointment as my root canal first molar has two holes in it, and it had become infected. During this appointment, the dentist told me there was nothing they could do, would not prescribe antibiotics, and I was advised to see an Endodontist privately.

The next day, an abscess formed under my first molar. However, after continuing to use Colgate Peroxyl, which has been effective, the abscess eventually popped, and pus came out; it has since gone away.

My question is this. I have made an appointment to see an Endodontist at the end of January 2026. I am now contemplating putting this off until May 2026, as the money I will end up spending on a re root canal and gold crown would have been used to start a small trading account.

Would I be okay waiting until May 2026 to get the re-root canal and save some more money in the meantime, or is it best to bite the bullet and get it done as soon as possible? Will the tooth still be infected?

If I carry out my regimented oral routine of brushing after each meal and using Curacept and Colgate Peroxyl alternatively, will this allow me to wait until May 2026 to get the job done?

Many thanks in advance for your answers.

Kind regards

Steve

The fact that the abscess popped is helpful as it means the pus has a way out rather than building up. So, if it continues to burst then I don't see any problem. However, if you develop swelling that does not burst and are tempted to reach for antibiotics then it's time to go to the endo.
You say the tooth has two holes in it, by which I assume you mean perforations. It would be helpful if you could show us an xray. A perforation is bad in itself, and also often means that the tooth strength may be weakened. You need to get a frank opinion from the endodontist at the first consultation about the long term prognosis for this tooth. Perhaps you would be better saving for an implant.
