A dentist who was not a root canal specialist performed a root canal on me. The tooth he performed on was on my upper right hand side towards the back. During the procedure I felt he was being rough and that he did not really know what he was doing. I left the office in great pain which has never happened before. I had no prior pain with that tooth, but after the root canal, I felt pain which I found odd. The next day I woke up and my right eye was half way closed. I went back to the dentist and he prescribed me meds thinking I had an infection. I went back a couple weeks later again because my eye did not get better and he prescribed me another dose of meds. Long story short... Its been 5 years and my eye lids is still droopy. I have done so much to figure out what has happened and no one can help me.PLEASE... Does anyone have any idea what could of happened and what I can do to help myself, please?

Good day,

Do you still have sensation on the right side of your cheek? Any limitations on movement of the other muscles of the face on that side?

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. Yes, i still have sensation and no limitations when it comes to moving my face. The only issue I have is with my eye. Its hard for my to tell if my eye can not fully retract because its a little puffy or if my eye lid lost proper motor function for whatever reason.

Good day
It is difficult to give an exact answer without a clinical exam or any radiographs, but there could be various causes including that the root canal might be failing or that the roots were perforated during the procedure. The tooth might also have a crack in leading to recurrent infection.
A proper exam, including perhaps a CBCT scan might give more information in this regard. This will show a 3D image of the relevant tooth.
Perhaps consider getting a 2nd opinion from another dentist

Hello,
After I received the root canal the first time, when my eye was at its worst, I did receive a 3D scan which indicated that an infection was present which lead me to getting the second root canal from a specialist. My eye issue did not resolve afterwards. My question is, if the first dentist perforated my roots, would the specialist be able to see that whilst performing the second procedure? I know that while the specialist was performing the root canal he said something like D2 I believe, D-something ... mabe K-something was left untreated. He said about 3/4 things that were left untreated. If my roots were perforated..is that damage irriversable? I am thinking that pulling the tooth with resolve my issues.

If the roots were perforated, usually the prognosis on the specific tooth becomes very poor. It also sounds like there might have been an extra canal in the tooth, that the dentist might have missed, leading to residual nerve tissue which could have lead to infection. It is completely possible for this to happen, since the anatomy of teeth might differ from person to person.
If there was no improvement even after visiting the specialist, it might be worthwhile to consider an option like an extraction and later an implant in that area to replace the missing tooth. You have to consider the costs of continually treating the tooth which is leading to no improvement, whereas an extraction and implant may have been cheaper as well
