Dentist has prescribed Deep Cleaning with Laser Soft Tissue Therapy.
They plan to do two quadrants per visit with numbing.

Is it preferable to do one or two quadrants per visit?
Is the Laser therapy effective and a major addition to removing bacteria?
Can this condition cause discoloration of the tongue?
Is there any way to select a great hygienist? Special qualifications?
I have seen a lot of articles from reputable healthcare organizations that recommend antibiotic
treatment in conjunction with conventional dental perio procedures. The two dentists I consulted say they do not recommend it and it is ineffective. Comments?
Thank You

You can do 2 quadrants per visit. Some specialists do more, it just depends on the time available.
There is lot of research done recently that shows that laser therapy is a great adjunct to normal deep cleaning, but it is not a substitute for normal mechanical debridement of the tooth surface.
Usually it does not discolor the tissues. There might be some redness, but this does not last and resolves after a short period.
Antibiotics is not always recommended. A lot of times, in severe cases, a bacterial culture is done in order to determine the bacteria that is present, causing the periodontitis. In these cases, antibiotics may be recommended. But again-nothing really replaces the normal mechanical debridement of the tooth root surface. Over-use of antibiotics has recently been shown to contribute a lot to world-wide antibiotic resistance, and should therefore be used cautiously.
