Is this an open margin?

Had my veneer replaced on tooth #8 in September. I noticed shortly after that the veneer does not touch my gumline and I can see the edge of my veneer. I recently saw a different dentist locally for a check up and x-rays. I asked him about that tooth. He said there wasn't an open margin. However, I can fit my fingernail behind the tooth and I’m having some sensitivity to hot and cold. He adjusted the bite. But I’m still not totally convinced that this tooth is completely sealed. What are your thoughts.

You will always feel the margin of the veneer to the tooth if it is not extended up until the gum line. Do not put your finger nail there, because you might dislodge or break the veneer. Try applying some Sensodyne toothpaste to the two front teeth.
Leave the toothpaste on for about 5 minutes, and then rinse it off. Check if the sensitivity reduces.

Thank you for your reply. But does the sensitivity in that area indicate that the margin is potentially open?

The sensitivity could be due to the open tooth surface as well, which is not covered by the veneer currently.

Besides the sensitivity, there should not be a real problem. You can clean it easily enough. If there is an unaesthetic appearance, you can add some filling onto this "open " area.
