Is my tooth dead?

Fell flat on my face on Saturday night, and pushed my top front tooth back about 2-3 millimetres. Went to sleep that night, and I think resting my tooth against the bottom set pushed it forward as it is now only slightly pushed back. My mouth was very swollen and sore, and my tooth would hurt when I would accidentally tap it with my bottom teeth or tongue. There was no tooth discolouration. Went to the dentist to double check it wasn't dead yesterday. He said it was still alive, and no chips or fractures but it could still die. He told me to come back and see him in ten days, but if it changed colour or was painful call him immediately. My tooth has become very heat sensitive (to hot and cold) over the last 24 hrs, so should I give him a call, or knock a few painkillers back and hope for the best?
