Increase Size of Caps to Fill Gap

I had my front four teeth capped over thirty years ago, and my dentist says they need to be replaced. I also have a small gap between my two front teeth, and the dentist says that they can adjust the size of the new caps to close the gap between the teeth. Has anyone ever heard of this being done before?
