How long after an implant for a crown?

My dentist and oral surgeon seem to have differing timelines on when to fit a crown after an implant, so wanted to get a non involved party's opinion on what is typically recommended?

You generally place a permanent implant crown, once the implant has fully integerated. The shortest I have heard of, is about 6 weeks, but the average is 10 weeks.
You can place a temporary crown on an implant, as long as the crown is non functional, and does not exert forces on the implant, that might influence integration.

Thanks very much! My dentist said 4 months, while my oral surgeon said several weeks. I guess I'll err on side of caution!
