I had a root canal and tooth number 14 approximately 10 years ago and recently I’ve noticed I’m having pain around the tooth and the gums feel very sore. I’ve had a somewhat recent abscess in that tooth and when I press down it feels a little spongy. There’s also a weird taste Around that tooth. I went to the endodontist and he stated it might be my gums. I’m wondering if it could be the tooth that needs extracted or if there’s an issue with the crown as it seems like I can see part of the tooth but I’m not sure. The endodontist did do a scan and said there is some bone loss from a previous infection. I’m not sure if this is an issues with the tooth or the gums? The endodontist is telling me it’s a gum issue.

Gum disease affects the gums and bone that support the teeth, causing redness, swelling, and bleeding. Tooth issues affect the tooth itself, like cavities or cracks that cause pain. At Baitner Pediatric Dentistry, both are checked early to keep children’s smiles healthy.
