Extended bone inside lower jaw - medical name?

A few months ago, I went to the dentist and she explained what this is
called, but I cannot remember the name. On the inside of my lower jaw,
I have an small extended lump of bone. I was not sure what it was, but
she tells me it is natural, occurs often and can grow as I get older.

In size, when running my tongue over it, it is around the size of a
    large pimple.

I was told it is an option to remove it. I am moving towards this
idea, as it is quite pointed and therefore fairly sharp and sometimes
appears to be the cause of ulsers where my tongue is in constant
    contact.

I would like to investigate the cost of this and find out more about
it online, but short of going back to the dentist, which is a cost I
would rather avoid, can anyone tell me what this is called?

I seem to remember it was some guy's name, but cannot remember any
    more.

One for your Dentistry pub quizzes too... ;)

    Thanks in advance

Why would you advise against removing it?

If it bothers you and there is no contraindication,
go ahead and have it removed.

Do know that it is surgery, and as with all surgery
    there are some risks.
