Did I do well in going through with RCT despite the cold test result?

I had a tooth of which the pulp was vital according to the cold test (only hurt for 2 seconds, even though it began hurting immediately upon contact), but it was still quite sensitive to cold in my opinion, so I decided to go through with RCT anyway. and when RCT was being performed, I had to have 5 shots of anesthesia and it still hurt. Dentist said the nerve was very inflammed. So did I do well in going through with RCT anyway? Did the tooth have irreversible pulpitis, despite the cold test result indicating the opposite?

None of my 2 dentists can give me a straight answer to this.

Did the tooth have a large cavity? Root canal treatment is only indicated in cases where the pulp has irreversible pulpitis , of which it sounds like you did not have it, or a necrotic pulp.
