I have a horizontally impacted wisdom tooth that never bothers me but
about 10 years ago (when I was 50) one dentist said he sees "some
pathology" on a panorex, maybe a cyst but he wasn't concerned and
since then they haven't seen anything. I woke up today and the inside
of my cheek on that side was a little sore, I often get canker type of
things but what is concerning me is that above the gum of tooth 17 is
a little oval sore which looks like it has a hole, a crater, about
1/4" away from tooth 18. Could a cyst around a wisdom tooth cause
this? I am hoping that it's just a canker sore because I am under a
lot of stress. I have no swelling or pain otherwise in that area.

Hi Steve, well, I took your advice and had it checked. I went to my
periodontist today who had a cat scan of my teeth (taken recently to
see if I could have implants) and there was no problem on that tooth.
He said the sore is a canker sore and that I don't have any signs of
pericoronitis, no swelling or redness, just a tiny white dot
surrounded by a red ring. I am having problems on the upper right
side, tooth 2 most likely has to come out, loose and shifting
constantly so this has stressed me out...need to fill in other gaps, a
mess, so I think all this stress weakened my system and gave me 2
canker sores (one inside my cheek). Thanks as always.

Thanks for the report back. The area of the sore is also easily
traumatized by the other teeth, but your description is consistent with
a canker sore (aphthous ulcer) or trauma. Glad you've ruled out the
dentigerous cyst, as those can be a major pain.
