Crown doesnt match veneer?

I initially contacted my dentist to replace an old crown. I proceeded with Invisalign and then replacement of the crown with 3 veneers to ensure that the front four teeth in the smile zone were all the same colour, shade etc.

It was done two weeks ago and since then i am sure that the central incisiors do not match.

The crown appears more white and translucent than the veneer next to it, which seems more opaque and thicker.

I have contacted my dentist and am going to see him next week about it, but wanted some other opinions on the result and how this could have happened.

If the crown is made from a different type of porcelain or ceramic than the veneers, this can lead to differences in opacity and translucency. For instance, some ceramics are designed to be more opaque to mask underlying tooth structure. If your crown was placed before you started Invisalign treatment or if it has been exposed to different staining agents compared to your veneers, this could also create a noticeable difference.
The thickness of the veneer compared to the crown can affect how light passes through each restoration.

Thank you

I replaced the old crown, and added 3 veneers all at the same time using the same lab and the same dentist. I was told this would result in the front four teeth being well matched but the veneer next to the crown seems less translucent to me.

The crown and veneer definitely look different in shade/translucency. Could be due to material differences, varying thicknesses, or just a tricky shade match. Good you're seeing your dentist – hopefully they can adjust or remake one for a better match.

I hate to see people unnecessarily worry over some relatively minor aesthetic issues. So I wonder if anyone else has noticed it and mentioned it? Partner, friends, work colleagues? Anyone looking that close at your teeth is getting pretty personal!
As a dentist I often notice slightly mismatched colours and opacities, and the next most critical person is the patient, ... but does anyone else really notice it? Matching veneers with crowns will often be very difficult, and getting veneers redone is sometimes fraught with risk of failure.
