Crown after dental implant pregnancy safe?

Hi, was trying to get more information ahead of time. I will be needing crowns for my dental implants in about 4 months.

For the process of getting crowns after implants, will I be needing to take a new X-ray or getting any numbing injections etc? (Anything unsafe for potential pregnancy?)

Just want to see if I need to be pushing back trying to conceive even further, thanks very much

You will need some x-rays taken, in order to ensure the accurate fit of the impression copings as well as the final crown. Sometimes you need local anaesthetic as well when the healing abutment is screwed off, since the gum tissue can be quite sensitive.

For implant crowns, you'll likely need X-rays and local anesthetic, but discuss pregnancy plans with your dentist and OB/GYN. Dental X-rays are low-radiation, but precautions like lead aprons are used, and ideally, non-urgent X-rays are postponed until after the first trimester. Local anesthetics like lidocaine are generally considered safe during pregnancy. Consult both doctors to weigh risks and benefits, explore alternatives if needed, and maintain good oral hygiene.

Absolutely minimal risks for such simple treatment during pregnancy. X-rays in dentistry are nearly always lateral to your head and not directed towards abdomen; lead aprons are not required; LA choice is not affected by pregnancy.

Thank you! I'm still someone who errs on the side of caution so likely will put off trying to conceive until after just in case

In general, getting a crown placed after a dental implant is a relatively simple procedure, but there are a few things to keep in mind if you're trying to conceive. X-rays are typically necessary for dental work to ensure the implant is properly integrated with the bone. However, if you’re pregnant or planning to conceive soon, many dentists will take precautions, such as using a lead apron to shield your abdomen, and they might recommend postponing any X-rays until after the first trimester if possible. As for numbing, most local anesthetics are safe during pregnancy, but it's always a good idea to let your dentist know so they can adjust accordingly. You should definitely discuss your pregnancy plans with your dentist so they can tailor the treatment to ensure your safety and comfort.
