hey all, I have two porcelain veneers. I don’t really like the shape of them, and would like to make them shorter and less wide. Can a dentist drill on the porcelain once they are cemented to change the shape?

No, this will damage the veneers and might even cause them to fracture. You should have voiced your concerns before cementing the veneers

Porcelain veneers are created to last for an extended period of time and it isn’t recommended to reshape them after they have been cemented. If you want a different one, then your dentist will likely recommend having the veneers replaced to give it the right appearance. In most cases, they’ll recommend a way out of removing them and having them redone for better adjustment.

Porcelain is a strong material, but once veneers are cemented, only very small adjustments can usually be made with polishing or slight reshaping by a dentist. Making them significantly shorter or less wide might risk damaging the veneer or affecting how it looks and functions. Sometimes, if the change is more than just a minor tweak, replacement might be the better option. It’s definitely worth bringing up with your dentist so they can evaluate what’s possible without compromising your smile.
