Can this tooth be saved?

Looking for a second opinion.
A new dentist suggested there is no more body to hold a filling (the right side dark shadow is a deep cavity) and recommended a root canal and a crown.
Is there a way to save the tooth?

Without taking my own x-rays and examining your tooth in person I cannot tell you definitively if the tooth can be saved. Sometimes a root canal and a crown are the only options. I would see another dentist for a second opinion if it bothers you. A filling can't replace a root canal.
