Very difficult to give an exact cause without a full history and examination, but it looks like some inflammation of the gingiva in that area.
I would suggest rinsing with some luke-warm salt water first and then just observe the area to see if it disappears. Sometimes the gum can be inflamed due to accidental injury to the area while eating, or even because of something that got stuck underneath the gum. Try flossing and see if something comes out and then just rinse the area first. If it becomes more swollen and red, then it might be necessary to go and see a dentist, to see if it is not maybe tooth related, and if additional medication is necessary.
