Has anyone here gotten same day crowns before? I’m curious about how durable and natural-looking they are compared to traditional crowns, and I’d love some advice before making a decision.

Sameday crowns are crowns that are made from digital scans of the mouth after a tooth has been prepped and then milled in a milling unit. Depending on the type of crowns the dentist has available, they can be just as aesthetic as well as just as durable as normal crowns. A lot of labs are moving towards digital scans and milled crowns as well. This is the direction modern dentistry is moving.

Same-day crowns are quick and can look very natural when made with materials such as porcelain. It’ll be certainly strong enough for most of its uses with the appropriate care, however for teeth under heavy pressure like molars, traditional crowns might be a better choice.

I was so relieved to skip the two-week wait and the messy putty impressions during my own crown procedure, but I did find that the "one-and-done" visit took about three hours of sitting in the chair while the machine milled my tooth. While my same-day ceramic crown looks incredibly natural and has held up perfectly for years, it’s good to remember that traditional crowns can sometimes offer a bit more heavy-duty durability for those of us who grind our teeth at night.

These days most modernl abs are mostly milling crowns that have very good durability, by using materials such as Zirconia.

They've come a long way since their inception. The concern expressed about messy impressions and 2 week wait for Ryan misses the limitations of milled crowns. They will not work for every situation, and it would be interesting to see if any prosthodontists out there have an opinion over their preferred type of impression technique and type of crown?
Last year one of my old molar teeth finally fractured. I deliberately requested a full gold crown ($$$); you can't beat them for fit, strength, compatibility, and durability.
