My teeth are in very bad shape, history as follows and sorry if I don't describe it in proper technical or medical terms:
  • As a child nobody cared for my hygiene or if I brushed properly, and almost all my teeth have fillings. The enamel is also very deteriorated. I should have gotten braces back then since all my front teeth were crooked. I remember that some of my permanent teeth came out behind or in front of my milk teeth that finally had to be extracted. I have a moderate overbite, my lower front teeth touch the upper ones from behind when I bite down.
  • About 15 years ago I was convinced by an orthodontist to get all my premolars extracted to make room for the other teeth and I was wearing braces for almost two years. My teeth got straightened and I could finally close my mouth properly, but the teeth were pulled back and became hidden behind my lips even when smiling.
  • About 7 years ago I went to another orthodontist who promised I'd get my smile back but this “professional” seemed to be winging my treatment as time went along. One day after two years of wearing braces again I said that I couldn't see any progress at all, and he decided to return all the money I'd spent and made me sign a disclaimer.
  • I've lost 2 molars that were crowns that had rotted underneath and one wisdom tooth also had to be extracted. One of my central incisors cracked in an accident and has a vertical line and one molar in the back has lost a corner.

I've now visited a cosmetic dentist that has shown me a lot of before and after photos of people he's fixed up and I must say they look great. He says he can put in fixed "bridges" where the molars are missing, without surgery. He also claims he can fix my overbite without braces. The process would include:
  • Rectification of the gums with a laser (gingivectomy).
  • Reconstruction of the two lost molars.
  • Design and placement of a mockup that I’d be wearing for some days, which he considers necessary due to the complexity of the whole treatment. I also feel good about this because it gives me the opportunity to provide feedback.
  • Placement of 6 multilayer zirconia crowns and 17 stratified disilicate veneers.
  • Retainer.

I’m not mentioning the quote I got here, but perhaps a professional could estimate a fair price for this treatment in Europe? My real questions and doubts so far:
  • Has the method of putting in molars without screw implants been proved to be lasting?
  • Will the correction of my moderate overbite result in very thick veneers? What are the limitations of this method vs the orthodontic one? (I may be able to show a photo of my overbite if someone is interested). I’m really not crazy about the idea of wearing braces again.

Update: I've been looking at more info and cases online and comparing with my teeth, which makes my anxiety go through the roof but I'm determined to get a solution. I'm making appointments with more cosmetic dentists in the 1,6m city near where I live and I'm going to suggest first making more room in my mouth cavity with orthodontics and reduce the overbite before the cosmetic treatment. The cosmetic dentist I've seen says it not necessary but I suspect their main motive is a quick buck.

As I understand it, the "good" thing is that with veneers and crowns my original teeth don't have to be put in a "perfect" position first as long as they're sufficiently straight and aligned with the curvature of the bite. My bite was reduced and recessed excessively after the premolar extractions, and in my layman's view especially the curve of the lower teeth has to be enlarged first with orthodontic treatment.

I'd very much like to hear what a professional thinks about this.
