"pimple-like" bump inside my cheek: should I worry?

Hi all,

I have recently noticed a small, almost perfectly round, slightly
raised, yellow-white "pimple-like" bump inside my cheek. It may be 2
mm (0.1") at most in diameter, and the edge around it is reddish. It's
painless and it's been there for about a month. It hasn't grown or
changed since I noticed it. About half an inch further back I have a
cluster of Fordyce's spots, but they are much smaller and this is
definitely not part of that cluster.

I must also say that I lost a friend to mouth cancer a couple of years
ago and since then I have been known to pester my dentist with silly
little things in my mouth that turned out to be nothing, so this time
I thought I'd do some research first. Maybe this is easy to identify
just from the description. Any ideas of what it could be?

Many thanks in advance,

Carlos

Stensen's duct ........ its normal.

SEE parotid gland.

Yup, see above. It is not cancer, forget that one .....

err, unless a clinical exam is different from what you described.
Please be aware of my disclaimer so do not sue me.

Mebee! I think he should pester his dentist.

Many thanks Joel. I just googled this and, if I understand correctly,
the exits of the Stensen's ducts are next to the upper second molar,
but this thing is next to the lower second premolar. Could it be an
obstructed and/or infected minor salivary gland? Should I try to
squeeze it?!?

Many thanks again,

Carlos

It could be a secondary (minor) duct ..... or something. I would not
monkey with it!

If it's near the level of your bite it could well be a fibrous
overgrowth from chronic irritation. But there are lots of things it
could be--I agree with Joel not to play around with it. If it doesn't
hurt and the size is stable it is unlikely in the extreme to be anything
dangerous, but this is a routine thing for any dentist to check and you
shouldn't hesitate to have it looked at.

Aggree... Unless you're 20 miles away from your nearest dentist by
dog-sled and kayak, why not get it looked at? You could have your
dentist see it or a local Ear Nose and Throat man, if there is one in
your area.

Thanks again to all. I'll have it checked and report back, in case
I've made you curious :-)

Go see your dentist and have him squeeze it and then you post some
pictures for us to look at.
