Medical assistants, who take care of scheduling, billing, coding
insurance forms and other clerical work make a mean annual wage of
$29,960 a year in the New York region, according to federal data. That
compares with a national mean of $26,690. (The federal records show
the "mean" wage to be the midpoint between high and low wages instead
of an average, which is often close but not the same.)
Physician assistants, who require more advanced training, provide
patient care and counseling, supervised by medical professionals.
Their mean annual wage in the New York region is $70,240, compared
with $66,600 across the nation, the federal records show.
Medical record and health information technicians make a mean annual
wage in the New York area of $36,010, compared with a national mean of
$26,690. Physical therapists' assistants make a mean of $39,170 in the
New York region, compared with $37,270 across the nation, the same
federal data say.
