Not only that, I have heard it claimed that the great Italian cuisine known
as the "Pizza Pie" was also invented in the new world.

You gotta be careful with national cuisine. Around here, if you want Paella,
you go to a Cuban restaurant. It was, therefore, very natural for me to assume
that paella was a Cuban dish. ...Until I suggested to a Spanish employee that
we go out for my favorite Cuban dish, paella. He quickly set me right in an
uncharacteristically loud voice!

You work for the local chamber of commerce too?
Yeah, I forgot to say how wonderful nh2's English is. I did study
French way back in high school and college, and it was close to
worthless when I finally got there--though being on a bicycle tour in
Normandy and Brittany with my then-boss (!), and having just that slight
edge over him in the French department, that (sadly) made me the translator.

Chamber of commerce? No.... just a VERY ordinary dentist (at least I
know that and don't submit my patients to unnecessary risks). Speaking
another language is like learning/using any skill: if that bike tour
lasted three months, your brain would have had time to recall and use
what you learned.

This is one of the great things about Europe: EVERYBODY speaks at least
two (many times four) languages fluently. They have to. We in North
America tend to shy away from that. The day that your President and our
Prime Minister can speak three or four languages, is the day that North
America will regain its glory.

I'll settle for our president speaking one language properly! ;-)
