Crown Fallen Out, Gum Concern

I have a small side tooth with a crown and post attached. The crown has
fallen out today exposing a hole.

Luckily I do have a routine appointment already scheduled for Wednesday (72
hours hence) and I am wondering if the hole can be left open till then for
the dentist to check for signs of infection and/or decay before hopefully
sticking the crown back in.

Sorry for the long winded post but my main concern is the worry that the
hole may close up before I see the dentist or is this unlikely to happen ?
Thanks.

Michael

Tooth may now be hopeless. Seek your dentist's opinion on Wed.
