Contact between 2 and 31 disturbed causing bite issues

Hi,

A while back, my dentist (a prosthodontist) shaved off the bottom
of #2 (I don't have the wisdom teeth on that side) to "solve" a soreness
issue in 31. Personally, I'm quite sure the recent filling in #2 was
rubbing the inside of 31, but he said it was not marking, and he's the
dentist so it was done.

I started having pain within a few hours in 5,6,7 and eventually
my entire mouth. I also noticed that in the last 1/32 or so of vertical
travel there was now also some horizontal travel caused by 11,12,21,22
pushing it to the right.

So, I go back and he says he needs to drill out the metal filling
and put a composite one (my preference) in 31 and overfill it to
reestablish the hard contact between 2 and 31. This is exactly what I
wanted to hear. So, he does this and says he is going to try and get it
close but, since I will be numb and won't be able to tell where it is, he
expects it to be a little high and I will have to come back to shave it
down.

Okay, I was with the program so far. I went back and he shaved it
down a bit and it felt perfect. However, after a day or so, lateral
movements of my lower jaw were appearing to cause 2 to hang up on 31 a
bit.

I went back again thinking this would be a simple fix and all
would be well. It didn't happen that way. Somehow, I ended up walking
out with the contact between 2 and 31 completely gone, just like when
this started. I couldn't tell this at the time. It only became apparent
after a few hours when the pain started and then I took a close look in a
mirror.

I'm going to go back and give him another shot at this. But, say
this just isn't working out with this guy...what type of specialist would
be appropriate to see to fine tune that contact between 2 and 31? For
me, that contact is ultra-critical...too high and teeth hurt, too low and
I have the issues described above. The difference between those is less
than 1/32 of an inch based on my observation.

I had one dentist bascially tell me I was crazy and shaving off 2
would do nothing like that. Sorry, don't think so. I'm looking for some
direction on where to go for this.

tia, Patrick
