I have read lots of marketing hype about sonic toothbrushes (such as
Sonicare), and lots of opnions for and against. But I can't find the
results of any independent tests that have been done to compare sonic
brushes to other kinds. Does anyone know of any?

Thanks.

It's not the brush, it's what you do with it.

I don't remember hearing back in the '60's slogans like: Burn your
floss! or Ban the Floss! or even Make Love not Floss!
mebbe it's just me...

If I'm not hugely mistaken, the Cochrane group came upon the conclusion
that a sonic toothbrush doesn't remove more plaque than the old
handdriven model. Oscillation toothbrushes (those with the round head)
do seem to remove more plaque on average and that's why I own one.

I have heard this also. In spite of this, I still believe that for most
of my patients the RotaDent is the best mechanical tooth brush possible,
as it puts the business end right where it should be: in the embrasure
spaces and the at the gum line.
